A martial artist from Woodbridge has launched a fantasy fighting series inspired by eight years of combat sports training, including time spent studying Muay Thai in Thailand.
Jack Anderson, born in Suffolk, has created The Zashin Legacy, an episodic series that blends prose, manga-style artwork and a self-narrated graphic audiobook. The series follows Alex Zashin, ‘a cocky but broken-hearted teenager, who has always dreamt of winning his island’s annual fighting competition. Faced with his last shot at glory, Alex must decide whether to continue hiding in the comfort of mediocrity, or seize his destiny himself.’
Commenting on the upcoming release of The Zashin Legacy: Volume 1, Anderson said: "I've spent eight years facing down punches in combat sports, including travelling to Thailand to study Muay Thai at its heart. Experiencing that culture and discipline was a real eye-opener for me, and it inspired much of what has now become The Zashin Legacy. "I wanted to write a fighting based fiction that emulated the real nature of combat sports, and then throw in an awesome power system amongst this realism.
“I’m publishing the story myself because I wanted to tell it on my own terms, without handing control over to a traditional publisher. I can’t wait for readers to see what I’ve created with this world."
The Zashin Legacy has been published through No Extra Source, Anderson's independent micropublishing company. Anderson has outsourced the manga-style artwork, but handled the rest of the production process himself including a self-narrated graphic audiobook.
The Collector’s Edition also comes with a custom made holographic trading card, and Anderson wanted each package to ‘feel special’, with hand wrapped items and signed books in each package.
The Zashin Legacy, Volume 1 launched on Tuesday, 19 May and is available in two tiers. More information is available from: www.noextrasource.com.
